My wife and I recently took on a project that became more rewarding than we expected. Responding to a call from WVD Zambia (World Vasectomy Day), we created an audio story exploring positive masculinity, highlighting the strength in vulnerability and the importance of open emotional expression. To our surprise, our submission was shortlisted, earning us an invitation to participate in WVD’s creative advocacy training.
The training itself was eye-opening, led by inspiring facilitators who each brought a unique perspective. Jonathan Stack, an award-winning filmmaker and the founder of WVD, shared invaluable storytelling insights. We also learned from Kaumba Akuso, founder of Tithandizane Comfort Home, and Micheal Mulusa—both of whom are deeply committed to impactful community advocacy. Together, they equipped us with the skills to use storytelling for real, social impact.
The experience wrapped up with a memorable certification event at the US Embassy, where we celebrated alongside other passionate advocates. It was an incredible reminder of the power of creative work in shifting cultural perspectives. For us, WVD’s initiative is a vital step toward changing how masculinity is viewed here in Zambia.

Thank you for tuning in to this special episode. This story was created in response to a call for creative work by WVD Zambia to promote positive masculinity. It was written and produced by me, Mwape Mwansa, in collaboration with my wife, Lwamba Mwansa. We hope it sparks important conversations about strength, vulnerability, and what it truly means to support one another. Enjoy the story.
Thanks to WVD Zambia and our wonderful facilitators, we’re inspired to keep sharing stories that open hearts and minds.
